Volume II (The Steel Inferno Series)
Nicole and I recently began working on Volume II of The Steel Inferno Series. As of yet it is untitled, but we would like to share a little about our process with you. Before we even considered beginning the writing process we drew detailed maps of each of the locations in which Volume II takes place. There are two primary locations and a few smaller ones, but the two larger ones have taken much time and planning to develop. Because our world is a fictionalized version of today’s world, we have some flexibility, but there is still specific research involved. Nicole and I each chose one of Volume II’s two primary cities and drew a meticulous map of it. Such details included its people’s government, military, transportation, dress, language, customs,...

Michelle Dunaway
In November, Nicole and I had the opportunity to meet the exceptionally gifted artist, Michelle Dunaway. She graciously allowed us to audit one of her demos and the instruction was nothing short of inspirational. After a series of fascinating conversations, her profound correlation with art, literature, music and poetry became visible. She truly is an artist in every sense of the word and we look forward to many more meetings with her in the future. Below is a remarkably insightful interview Michelle was kind enough to grant us. 1. Do you have a specific goal every time you paint? My goal when painting is to be as faithful as I can to what I am seeing and perceiving. Keeping in mind throughout the process, to maintain a main focal point and have a hierarchy of...
Our Writing Purpose
We began writing with poetry and progressed to novels in order to expand our means of expression. Considering that people generally read novels our messages are now in greater potency to be heard. Regarding our style, we strive toward a simple, yet rhythmical and poetic configuration of language. In this matter, the influences of Edgar Allan Poe, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Charles Baudelaire, Rainer Maria Rilke, Victor Hugo, Lord Byron, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Lewis Carroll, Mikhail Bulgakov, Vladimir Nabokov, Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, George Orwell, Nikolai Gogol, Leo Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, Edmond Rostand, Arthur Rimbaud, Alexandre Dumas, The Bronte Sisters, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and William Shakespeare are prominent. As opposed to the Classics, much modern...
To Paint with Words
The pictures that writers paint in their story can either be factual or figurative. What is the difference between the two? Factual – factual descriptions are literal, or devoid of similes and metaphors. Example: The raven spread its wings and took flight, circling the border of the fog-laced forest. Figurative – figurative descriptions are a symbolic depiction of things literal and are called “Imagery”. Example: A few of the raven’s feathers broke off and splashed upon the ground like drops of tar as it took flight and circled the fog-laced forest; like a night sentry patrolling his post. When you utilize imagery in your manuscript, the need for a multitude of adverbs and adjectives (most of which have been used time and time again) decreases. It...
